View live doorbell using voice

Hey Google 🙂

I always used to be able to ask a Google assistant device to show my nest doorbell on my Chromecast TV. Worked fine for ages, then randomly stopped working about 10 weeks ago.

I've submitted feedback through the app but no response.

If I ask assistant to show my honehub camera it works just fine.

I can view the doorbell cam through both the nest app and home app, that would almost be ok if you could then cast from either of the apps to the TV but you can't... (Hint - fix this for bonus points!)

Please fix so I can use voice commands to view my doorbell cam on my TV 🙂

Hi Xanzex.

Thanks for posting in the community!

I understand that it is frustrating to not be able to see the live video of your doorbell on your Chromecast. To help troubleshoot, I have a couple of questions:

  • Which Chromecast model do you have (Chromecast with Google TV or Chromecast Ultra/regular Chromecast)?
  • Which generation of Nest Doorbell do you have (wired, battery, or video doorbell)?
  • Are you able to cast video to your Chromecast?

Knowing this information will help me provide the most accurate steps to get your doorbell video working on your Chromecast.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Nery.

Thanks for getting in touch.

I have a wired doorbell. I've tried with two types of Chromecast (Ultra and TV).

Yes, all other video (YouTube etc) casts fine from an app on my phone and further I can use voice commands to bring up the camera on my nest home hub.

As I say, always used to work fine, so frustrating that it has stopped.

Thanks again for getting in touch!

Hi Xanzex,

Thanks for your prompt response!

It sounds frustrating that the Nest Doorbell is not working with two different Chromecasts, especially when it worked properly.

Have you tried to give a try to perform the factory reset to the Chromecast? If not, please try the next steps:

For the Chromecast Ultra:

  • While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, hold down the button on the side of the Chromecast. The LED should begin to blink orange. When the LED light turns solid white, release the button and the Chromecast should then restart.

For the Chromecast with Google TV:

  • While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and powered, press and hold the button on the back of the Chromecast. The LED should start to blink yellow.
  • When the LED light turns solid white, release the button, and the Chromecast should then reset.

Keep me posted on how it goes!

Best regards,

Nery.
