Unable to remove people from household

I'm unable to remove people from my Google home household.

After completing the process I get a message

"Something went wrong when removing user from the home"

Last time I ended up having to create a new email address and rebuild all homes from scratch. I don't want to have to change email address and rebuild homes each time a tenant moves in or out

I'm sorry for the trouble this has caused you — let me help you with it.

Are you using an Android or iOS device? Are you the account manager of your household? Also, have you tried uninstaling and reinstalling the Google Home app?
