Setting Up Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen

I am trying to set up a Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen and went to download the Google Home App. I was told this was a free App but to set it up I was asked for my credit card details and there seemed to be some ongoing payment. I tried several times but the same result I am not willing to give those details. I am clearly new to this but can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Thanks!

The Google Home app is a free app.
