Google home asking pin when open garage door

Hi when I try open garage door via google hone app it’s asking me for verify pin I hv no idea which pin it’s asking and where can I get or reset please help thanks

Why are there no replies to this question yet? I'm in the same boat, both with my garage door and front door. I say "hay google, open the garage door" it replies "can I have your pin?" I state out loud (not very secure) the 4 digit pin I set up on my Google account and it says "sorry, it looks like that pin is incorrect" it's definitely the one I set up, I even reset it a few times to be sure. Is there a Google home pin somewhere?

I just saw this i got the same issue on my sonoff ... It works off of google home. I found the google home account pin and i also reset it but it is not the pin. My sonoff has no admin pins of any sort. Im not sure what other pin it might be asking for i will continue to try though.

@Amit845150 and JayWillis116, I'd like to dig deeper into this. What's the make and model of your garage door? What's your garage door manufacturer? Do you remember setting up a PIN in the manufacturer's app?

@efraindelarocha, what's your Sonoff garage door model? Did you set it up in the eWeLink app? What's the response from the Google Home when you ask it to open the garage door?

The PIN code that Google Home is asking for is usually set up on the garage door manufacturer's app. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with more information about your setup for me to be able to assist you further.

Thanks for reaching out. I got my answer on here or a different forum. The garage opener im using is actually just a relay switch with sensor Sonoff It utilizes the smart life app. I found the password hidden in the alarm section of the smart life app weird place to put it. If anyone has this the alarm looks like a bell in the app.Screenshot

Hey LovelyM,

Does Google Assistant allow opening the garage door by voice?

I have a similar setup to efraindelaroca (4DDoors by Holman with a 4DDoors branded relay that works with SmartLife backend), and have managed to get the pin to resolve through voice command, but the door still doesn’t open. Google Assistant confirms that it will open the door, but nothing happens. Interestingly, I can close the door with voice just fine. Also, the door will both open and close (without needing a pin) using the buttons in the Google Home app.

Any ideas where I’m going wrong?

Hello everyone,

@Captaininsano, please go to your garage door manufacturer's app to set up the PIN code so you can give it to Google Home every time you ask it to open the door.

@WSV, the actions that Google Home is capable of are allowed by your garage door manufacturer, but a PIN code is almost always needed for security. If you have a similar setup with efraindelarocha, you may try to unlink and relink SmartLife to see if that will resolve your issue. You can also try to ask your speaker to "sync the devices".

i didnt know if this was an answer or a question @Captaininsano . my question however has been resolved... pin was found inside of the smart life app in a hidden area i would say. everything works on my end thanks everyone for your help.

Hey @LovelyM, no joy I’m afraid. I have tried resynching (both asking Assistant to do it, and doing it in the e Google Home app) and delinking/relinking the Smart Life provider. No change in outcome. Any other ideas?

Incidentally, I tried looking up Smart Life to contact them directly and it seems they are a B2B business. Their product is white labelled (branded as 4DDoors in my case). Do you have any ability to escalate to their support team?

Did you setup a pin in the smart life app?? This pin is different than your smart life login. Its a 4 pin digit you have to setup within the smart life app once logged in. Look at my previous comments. Once you setup the 4 digit pin in smart life and you try using google home to access the garage or whatever other device is asking for a pin you enter that same pin. It wont ask you for it again on this particular device your using.

@WSV i just read your previous comments... Sounds like your only issue is initiating the garage to open and close with voice commands. Sounds like it otherwise qorks with the virtual buttons using google voice is that correct. I have to imagine you have no issue using the smart life to open and close and you have no issue opening and closing the garage with google home. I am using the preview build of google home. From what i recall google home added open and close button only after the preview build wich came out in the last couple of weeks.

Yep - I did it during setup and I don’t get any errors about the pin. I can open and close the door using buttons in the app, and close it with voice - just not open it with voice.

I’m gonna try to redo setup (again) and see if it somehow ‘takes’ differently…

I think i had something similar when i setup my app. If i wanted to open and close the garage using voice. You see theres not really a close and open command.. theres really only one action and thats just to activate the relay. Now if you wanted to do this with open and close commands you can setup an action in smartlife i think thats what i did at one point.. correct me if im wrong but say ok ok google open the garage will open.. while the garage is open you can again say ok google open the garage and the garage will close . If what im saying is true its because google does not know what position your garage is in .. instead your simply activating a relay. Try setting up scenes and than use those commands to open and close the garage. I mean if you really need that to work the way you want it to. The only command really available is sending a close contacts on the relay.. thats it.

Hello again!

The app on mine is called “Meross”.

I went into that app, and in the top right corner of the connected garage door remote, you tap that corner and set the pin.

From that moment on, When you ask Google to open your garage door it will ask for the pin and you verbally give it to google and voilà…. It works!

OMG - it looks like you are mostly correct, and it’s a security issue!

my issue was being unable to open the door with voice (even with the pin set, and giving the pin verbally). BUT, closing the door worked fine, without the need for a pin. Using your method, I just opened my door by asking Google to close it, and didn’t need a pin!

The bit where you’re not quite right though is that Google Home does actually know the state of the door. When I asked Google to ‘close’ the already closed door, the door opened and Google knew that it was then open.
