Cannot add 2nd thermostat to app TD030

I am having the same issue as many others....adding a 2nd thermostat to the Nest app. I can add each individually, I can add a temp sensor device, but not both thermostats. I've tried doing resets, adding in different order, bringing the one already added close to the 2nd (they're not far apart to begin with), changing accounts they're added to, updating the firmware, checking my router (an ASUS RT-AC5300) and verified that they and my phone are all on the same network. I was able to configure it for wifi so I can at least use it, but it is getting that TD030 error when trying to add to the app (so please don't act like a L1 support to a neophyte and reply with those same 3 steps to try, as I've worked in the IT field for over 30 years and know how to troubleshoot). Has anyone gotten this fixed? Thanks in advance....

Hey Marc,

I wanted to jump in, and see if I can help find a solution in getting those to all show up in the app. I see you went through some troubleshooting steps in trying to get it to work. Do you mind me asking if you have a multistage HVAC system? If this is the case, you may need to have a Nest Pro come out and take a closer look to ensure both systems are communicating with each other. I found a helpful article with more details on multistage systems. Please let me know if that helps.

I had the very same problem and Nest Support asked me to try adding the thermostat on another device (iPad instead iPhone) and it worked right away. I had tried on my iPhone over and over and always got a TD030 error.

I was also having this problem but finally had success by detaching the 2nd thermostat from the wall, bringing it over to our Google router, and adding it to the app while standing next to the router. From the advice I got you could also try bringing it next to your first thermostat. Good luck.

Thanks for you suggestion. I believe there is a bug in the iOS version. After I scan the code, it won't connect, it seems to be struck at Nest Thermostat icon and not move to Nest Learning Thermostat icon. After a minute, it post an error TD030.

Then I try the iPad version, it still the same error.

I installed the Android app on my Samsung A7 tablet, I did the same step. After scanning the QR code, it first try Nest Thermostat icon and then it move to Nest Learning Thermostat icon. Long and behold, it let me added to the same home.

This is exactly the problem I’m having. All I’m trying to do is add a second nest learning thermostat to my nest app. All my connections are fine and WiFi is working with no problems. The second nest learning thermostat is working fine standalone mounted on the wall. But I can’t connect it to the app.

I have a nest thermostat in a Florida home that works great. Connects to the app and fully functioning remotely for the last 10 months. Then bought a nest for our Tennessee home. I work through all the entry code and serial numbers to add the second nest. then the app spins trying to connect a “nest thermostat”. Will never move to the “nest learning thermostat” icon. Then errors out and gives me the TD030 error code. I also tried connecting to my iPad and had same issue. I don’t have any android devices to connect so that won’t help.

Seems like a simple thing to add multiple nest thermostats to the same account. Can someone at nest/google customer support weigh in and help us?

Got it fixed!! Got on phone with google support. They were great. If the two nest devices are not close together the app tries to “find” the first one. In my case, the first one was in a different state. All you have to do is go to the nest app home page and click the + sign in the upper right. Then create a new “location” or new “home”. Designate your second nest device to that location and it should connect immediately. Now I have two nest thermostats listed in the app when I open the app. I just choose which location I want to access. Worked like a charm for us! Hope this helps.

Making sure to add a new location before trying to add a new thermostat worked for me! Easy fix but took a long time to figure out that was the answer

I had the same problem. It turns out that it had to do with the WiFi network I was connected to. I put all of my IoT devices on the guest network, which does not permit connectivity between devices on the network (i.e. "guests" can only send traffic to/from the internet, but not inside the home). When one Nest thermostat wants to connect with others in the home, though, it cannot do it, if it is on the Guest network. I moved them all to the regular WiFi that the family uses, and it worked right away.

Now, from a security perspective, this is sub-optimal, as it puts devices on your network that you cannot update/manage which now have network access to all your other devices such as your laptops and phones.

Google, you should know better!
