Found the answer to one part of the puzzle. Extremely irritating that it isn’t mentioned anywhere in the documentation I have seen on Automations, the ability to control a camera is only available on household automations not personal ones. Go figure. Why? I want to set up some automations that I have control of in terms of editing etc. and given Google still won’t let me differentiate user level access personal automation was the only way of doing it.

then there seems to be a very restricted set of starters that can be used to control a camera.

google Home really is an incredibly immature, functionality disadvantaged application. Is Google really serious about playing in this space. Or is Google Home where they put the interns in terms of product management.

I have just received an email from Google about the “amazing” new Home app and all the wonderful features. It says I can schedule when my cameras are on. I have been struggling to get this working for months, so the email me prompted me to give it another go.

still the same. Neither camera shows up in the list of possible devices I can control. I used to be able to do this from the Nest App but can’t from Google Home, even for the new floodlight cam that only works in Google Home.

Does this feature actually work? Does it work on iOS? If so can someone please help me with what I am missing. Or are Google just claiming something that doesn’t exist?

admin please don’t lock this thread after a crazily short period of time like you normally do. I am asking for help.

Hi Turnbacktime,

Thanks for reaching out. You can create a time based routine to your Nest camera so it will turn off on your preferred time. Check out this link for more information about the routines.

Regards,

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately I have already tried the instructions in those guidelines. I can set up the trigger actions but when I move to the next step, to select the device to be controlled, neither of my cameras appear in the list of available all devices. I have a first gen Nest outdoor cam and a current model floodlight cam, I can select the floodlight part of the floodlight cam but not the actual camera.
This is on the latest version of Google Home and iOS 16.5.1.
