We want to use the "room" level commands to moving the light to a different room defeats the process.

It seems like a bug in the algorithm of how the Assistant is processing the command. To me it makes sense that if the display that is listening is in "Home A" and the command is for "Room C" then it should first see if "Home A" has a "Room C" before looking if "Home B" has a "Room C"

There is no way to define a "default" home and it would seem that it is not taking the location/GPS of any of the devices into account before executing the command.

I have two households setup, one for my house and one for my parents. Both homes have a room named "living room" until recently when I said "turn off the living room" everything in my home's living room would turn off (lights, fan, xbox, tv) however recently I updated to a new Pixel 7a phone. After the transfer to that phone now when I say "turn off the living room" it turns off the light in my parents house!!! I have checked that I have my house set in the Home App and that my phone is used for presence sensing.

Any ideas on how to get the Assistant to know that the room I am asking about is in the home I am currently at?

thanks in advance

Hi geekosphere,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delay. To turn off a specific device, you can add the name of the device. Ensure your devices have different names so your Google assistant can accurately control them. See sample commands below.

Say "Ok Google" or “Hey Google," then:

To turn a light on or off - "Turn on or off <light name>"

Turn all lights in room on or off - “Turn on or off lights in <room name>"

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Thanks, yes using the specific device name still works correctly. What I am trying to understand is how to regain the more generic "room control" as both homes have a room called "living room."

When I say "turn off the living room" I want it to act on the house that I am currently in, not put my parents into darkness 😉

Hello geekosphere.

I understand and am sorry for the delay. What you can do is change the room of the lights in one of the home structures so your Google Assistant will not get confused about which room lights you would like to control.

Regards,

Hello there,

Got it. Try to relink the lights on both home structures and observe if it makes a difference. Also, could you please provide the Google Home app version installed on your phone?

I look forward to your response.

Best,
