Google Nest setup issues

My husband and I just purchased a home and it has a google nest thermostat. It would be a wonderful thing, but the nest is set up/linked with the previous owner's google account and we dont seem to be able to "Unlink" it and link it to ours so we are dealing with her settings and the heat is kicking on when it is 80 F in the house already! At present, we've had to pull it out of the wall so that we do not roast. Please help. We'd very much like to be able to set up the nest and are told it has to be configured with the nest app on our phones but the nest itself says we cannot connect because it is already linked to another account.
