I added an LG ThinQ device years ago. I'm trying to remove it but unable to. I can add a duplicate LG thin Q device and remove that one, but the old one I am unable to remove.

It appears this has been an issue for many years with various convoluted and non-intuitive work arounds documented on this forum with users having similar issues....all the way to deleting the Home from Google Home App and recreating. None of these work for me.

A more drastic option was to use a completely separate Google account - which is out of the question for me. I'll go for another home app client if that is the only solution.

My question then is...why has this not been resolved in so many years? has this been escalated as a major user issue? It reflects poorly on the app as well as Google as an organization to build such consumer facing products? It seems insane to me that this app is plagued with such basic usability issues...

Does the device still show up in your LG ThinQ app? If so, remove it from that app first, then it should disappear from the Google Home app. If it doesn't, you can try going to Settings > Works with Google > LG ThinQ and disconnect and reconnect your LG account.

@dizzy0ny

I delved heavily into this, in terms of finding a resolution. I'm confident a great majority of our Google cohorts have done the same, including yourself. I've exhausted all known resources, none of which were able to produce a viable solution. I chatted with Google support, explored relevant communities on Reddit, utilized different search engines, etc. All without success.

I moved the device to a home that I created and then deleted the new home. However, when I went back into my original home, somehow the device was still there.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Google home app.

I updated the Google home app and then uninstalled the updates.

I created a completely new Google account and linked the device that I actually wanted. I logged out and then logged back in, and the old device was still there.

Lastly, I deleted both homes in the home app AND completely removed both of my actual Google accounts from my phone; then I restored my original Google account. I opened the YouTube app and selected the cast icon, guess who was there...yup, the old F'n device!

You're absolutely unequivocally 100% correct. It's a known issue that Google themselves are aware of. Google insists on perpetuating "smoke and mirrors," as opposed to resolving it.

Please let me know if you come up with anything. If you're comfortable with it, feel free to email me. Thanks.

#
