Trying to add — there is no key code and the QR code throws an error and does not work

I recently moved into a new home and one of the nests is not able to connect through the QR code and does not give me a key code to enter into the app. Of course there is no help or a one 800 number what a joke for customer service.

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I understand that you recently moved into a new home, but one of your Nest devices cannot be connected using the QR code, and it’s not providing you a key code to enter into the app. Don’t worry, help is here.

To assist you better, please answer these questions:

What type of Nest device is the one that you can’t connect?
Does the phone you use have a QR code scan feature?
Is this the first time you’re installing the device?
Are you using the Nest app or the Google Home app to manage your Nest device?
Is your Google Home app or Nest app updated?
Are they scanning the QR code in a well-lit environment?

To add to @virnab's advice, first check which model of thermostat you have:

How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help

Nest Thermostat (2020), Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)

If the thermostat hasn’t been reset by the previous owner, on the thermostat, go to Settings > Account > Disconnect.
Follow the setup steps: Get started with your Nest Thermostat - Google Nest Help

Setup these models using the Google Home app. The QR code and setup key are physically printed on the back of the thermostat for Nest Thermostat (2020) and will be displayed on screen for Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen).

Nest Thermostat E, Nest Learning Thermostat (1st, 2nd, 3rd gen)

If the thermostat hasn’t been reset by the previous owner, on the thermostat, go to Settings > Reset > Account connection. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select All settings.
Follow the setup steps: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

Setup these models using the Nest app. The QR code and setup key are in the settings on the thermostat itself and are not printed on the device.
