Camera Notifications

The Nest camera notifications in Home are pretty useless because none of them flow in until I physically pick up my phone and interact with it. As an example, if I have my phone sitting on the table with me while I work for 2hrs and then pick up the phone to check something, I am inundated with a sudden and continuous flow of Home camera notifications for the next minute, all of them having actually occurred within the last 2hrs. What's going on? Please help me fix this.
