The Google Home app requires iOS 13.0 or later.

So, was there ever a version of Google Home that ran on an earlier version of IOS? I thought iOS 13 was reasonably new. (Couple of months) Google Home has been around a while, hasn't it?? (A year or two)

Not as far as I now. iOS 13 was released September 2019 so by no means new I'm afraid and you would need to update to iOS 13 or higher to be able to use the app. The latest version is iOS 15 now.
