Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) and Honeywell D117 mechanical bell

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Google Nest Doorbell (Battery model) and installed it with an 8V AC transformer.

So far, so good.

I would now like to connect it to a Honeywell D117 mechanical bell. I followed the schematic n.3 for the wired installation as shown in this installation instructions:

However I cannot get any sound from the D117 bell when I press the Google Nest Doorbell button.

Is there any schematic available? I haven't found any schematic in the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) installation instructions and the tutorial videos are quite superficial.

Yes, that wiring should be ok. Do you have the setting for ringing an external chime turned on in the Google Home app? If so, I guess it's possible that the transformer you have is not powerful enough. 8V is in the acceptable range (on the far low end), but how much power can it deliver? 10VA is the minimum. That should be printed on the transformer somewhere.

I wired this chime into mine today using a diagram I finaly found by typing Nest doorbell wiring and looking at the Images tab. Mine works but I have 18v Transformer I bought from Ebay. You have to saitch electronic chime on as well as that held me up for a while. I couldn't stand the delay of google mini chime.

Hi, yes I have the settings for ringing the external chime turned on, and tried both with and without the electronic chime option. The transformer can do 8V, 12V and 24V and I tried them all. It does 10VA at 8V AC.

Interesting, this wiring diagram is different than the one on the box, but it seems to refer to an external adapter that was not included with my doorbell (the battery option).

Hi Brad, I purchased a transformer that does 10VA at 12V AC and I've started getting a faint sound from the bell. I will experiment with more powerful transformers when I get the time.

I think Google Nest must provide a transformer option with the doorbell, as it is not easy to get a matching one. Or to recommend existing transformers. The 10VA at 8V AC performance requirement doesn't seem to work.
