Thanks for your response. I will use a water sensor too. If the sensor goes off, I'll hear it through the webcam (I will turn the Talk & Listen setting on) , I'll be able to see what's happening on the webcam. I'll only enable the web cam if there is a forecast of severe rains which only happens about twice a year.

I have a rental home with a sump pump in the basement. I want to monitor the pump remotely in case water comes in and the pump should fail. I need to connect to the tenant's Wi-Fi. I will turn the Talk & Listen setting OFF so I would not be able to eavesdrop. Can I assure the tenant that the Nest app will not be able to monitor any other Wi-Fi activity in their home (e.g., web browsing, printing, etc.)?

The nest camera would not be able to monitor any other activity in the house.

I do need to ask, why would you not just get a water sensor instead?

have the tenant create a guest wifi this way you will be separate from theirs and offer to sign a NDA that you agree yada yada it’s for the sump only and other legal nice stuff. And yes get a leak detector but if it goes off you will be clueless with out the camera if the tenant does not respond to you about the leak.
