Nest (battery) Camera falling off mount?

Hello,

Does anyone else have the problem of the Nest Camera (battery version) where it falls off the magnetic mount? I have my camera mounted on a flag pole and we just got a couple inches of snow and ice. The temperature is only around 30 degrees. I randomly got a notification the camera became unmounted and when I went out it was laying on the ground. I can't put it back up on the pole right now as it's about 15 or so feet up the pole.

Was this just a freak thing? Is there a more secure mount maybe? Anyone else having this issue?

A flagpole doesn't seem a very solid surface on which to mount a camera with a magnetic mount. We have one of the new Google Nest Battery Cameras (for 4 months) and also have the older Google Nest Outdoor Cameras, also magnetically mounted. None have ever fallen off or even wiggled out of alignment, and the oldest has been up almost 3 years. But ours are either mounted under an eave or on a wall under a camera shade. Wasserstein does make an anti-theft mount for the battery camera, but it just provides a cable to keep it from dropping or being stolen; it won't keep the camera mounted.

The flagpole is just as secure as under an eave. The only difference is I guess more weather elements get to it?

It's a flagpole with a square metal plate mounted from that I have the magnet mount. It doesn't wiggle or move at all.

I'm assuming the water/ice got under it and separated it from the magnet mount. That's my only guess.

It's okay. I'm not sure if anything can be done? I mean I guess if there was a way to screw it down or have an optional screw mount vs magnet.

I've since put the camera back up and it wasn't damaged in anyway given it was a 15ft fall to the ground. Definitely sturdy in that aspect.

I was more so just wondering. I think the issue was we've just had some days with extreme wind at like 50mph and I think with the flags it shook the pole hard enough to knock it lose to have it fall off. Yet it was also snowing/rain/ice as well during that.

I am sorry to hear this has happened to you! I will let you know that where you have the Nest Cam installed is not a recommended location. I would suggest that you move it somewhere more stable.
