We bought another Google Nest Hello Doorbell instead for our third (unwired) entrance due to all of the concerns noted in this forum.

The first is that we live in Minnesota and the battery doorbell cannot charge at temperatures below freezing;

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989?hl=en

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Cold-weather-concerns-with-Nest-Doorbell-Battery/m-p/107641

The second is that the battery doorbell always runs off of the battery--even when it is wired--and when it is wired, the battery is trickle-charged at such a low level that the battery cannot always remain charged, especially if there is activity on the doorbell:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Doorbell-Battery-draining-while-hard-wired-to-electricity/m-p/111551

I got a Nest Doorbell (Battery) a few weeks ago, and was able to install it with a power-supply connection (i.e. a dedicated PSU, not part of an existing powered doorbell installation). Most of the time the battery indication for the doorbell shows the infinity symbol as expected, but sometimes I find that it's reporting a battery full percentage (e.g. 30%) and a time-remaining (e.g. 7 days) instead as if it's "forgotten" it's on a PSU supply. Most (not all) of the time, if I turn off the PSU for a minute and then turn it back on, the doorbell once again shows the infinity symbol and knows that it's on a proper supply.

Why is it doing this? I have a hunch that it's much slower to respond when someone presses the doorbell when it's in this incorrect "I'm running off battery" state, so I'd like to fix the problem.

I have the same problem as @dfluff and it seems that there is no solution for our battery doorbell 😫 according to @MplsCustomer. I just bought (and installed) a 30VA transformer to address the issue but I gather that won’t work. 😠

Couldn’t this be fixed by firmware? 🤔
