Outdoor/Indoor Cam (battery) not sending notifications on battery

I have a Nest indoor/outdoor cam and it will not record events and send notifications on battery. I decided to try the plug on stand and it works as expected - events are logged and notifications sent. As soon as I unplug it, events and notifications stop. Battery is at 99% and all cfg settings are correct. Anyone else have this issue? How was it resolved?

We have one of the new Google Nest Cameras (Battery). We have it plugged in all the time with the optional power cable and it streams 24/7 and picks up events and sends notifications. I've seen many posts in this forum where customers have trouble when these cameras are running on battery power because they are in "Idle" mode and apparently do not wake up in time to detect events.

That's exactly how mine is configured, with the same results. That sure makes the stand alone battery version useless!

I tried making these configuration changes suggested by Customer Care but the camera is dead to the world when on battery. If I had a battery powered installation, the camera would be o its way back to Google!

It's expected that you would receive more events when plugged into a power source and running continuously. For issues detecting events on battery, we'd suggest checking the wake sensitivity and determining how long events were in frame that were not picked up.
When on battery power, the camera is in an idle state and when motion is detected the camera then turns on to determine if an event needs to be created. This means if an event goes through the field of view too quickly then the event may not be saved. You can improve this by turning the wake sensitivity up to pick up motion further away from the camera and increasing the event length in the settings.
If the cable is in place where the camera is mounted then please leave it plugged as this would allow the camera to keep the stream running 24/7 and would help any events that occur are picked up as the camera will already be on and awaiting any motion to be picked up.

Given the responses you received from the "Google Nest Customer Care Team", it seems that the Google Nest Camera (Battery) is rather useless if it is not plugged in. It would seem, then, that the optional power cable should not be "optional" but required and included with the camera.

Agree. Here's the proof - when powered, it's connected. On battery, it is not.
