Two Nest Hello, 1 Transformer, and NO Chimes

CURRENT SETUP: I have 1 Nest Hello Doorbell installed with Doorbel Chime. I NO LONGER want the chime.

I want to Add 1 more Hello Doorbell and Remove the Chime.

I have a 24Vac / 40VA Transformer and new wire i will run where it needs to go. Everything runs into basement where I can cut/splice/modify the wiring. Each Doorbell will have 2 wires running to them.

I want to wire it so there is no chime. How do I wire this setup.

Thanks for reaching out. You can check the diagram below on how to connect each Nest Doorbell (wired) to the transformer.

Important: Make sure that the Indoor Chime setting on the app is set to Off, by moving the slider to the left.

+1 I currently have no chime wired into my circuit. Would also like to know if two doorbells should be wired the way you posted above to one transformer. How did it work out for you? Thanks!

Hey folks,

@dontcrossme, the chime connector allows the chime’s wires to deliver constant power to the Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage. In addition, without the chime connector, you might experience chime buzzing or unexpected chimes.

@noahl, Nest doorbell has a required voltage to work properly. About connecting two doorbells on one transformer, it may or may not work. Check out this link for more information.

@aatienza , I dont have a chime so what is its purpose in configuration that was given to me above. As pictured by @SteveT1 . No one ever seems to have a full technical reason for it.

I also am trying to connect two Nest Hello units without any chimes. I am not able to get them both to work on one transformer. I don’t fully understand without a chime what the need for the chime connector is. I am looking for a diagram on how this would need wired:

- (2) Nest Hello (wired)

- (1) 16-24 transformer

I figured it out. Nest Wired Doorbells do not need the chime connector if the chime is completely out of the circuit. I have been successfully running two Nest cameras for a couple months. I upgraded to a 16V/30VA transformer for $20 so it can handle the load of two doorbells. Both doorbells are receiving approximately 17.4V constant.

Thanks! Anything special to get them hooked up? When I tried with my transformer it got really hot but the door bells won’t power up.

No issues. Probably would troubleshoot w a different transformer, and check the voltage on the end of both doorbells with them attached and unattached.
