Nest Outdoor Camera offline after power outage

This is an OLD problem that I still cannot find Nest/Google providing a final solution other than dumping the camera and throwing away $200. I have 2 Nest cameras - one indoor and one an outdoor. Only the outdoor camera fails to come back online after a power failure. No problem with the indoor camera. Only a reset by manually unplugging it from the electrical outlet fixes it. This is at a property of mine an hours drive away and defeats the purpose of using it for security. Is there a FIX? Typically these things are a firmware issue and the device needs a firmware update - IS THERE ONE AVAILABLE? Unless I missed it, other threads I have read say nothing about a fix and support just mostly walks away from it. Not acceptable.

As a band aid fix until Google fixes this, you might consider using a smart plug you can turn off and then on remotely.

This is a perennial problem. We had a power outage yesterday, and I had to unplug two of our Google Nest cameras (the first gen non-battery ones) and plug them back in again before they'd come back online. I did not have to unplug our oldest camera, or the doorbells, or our one new Google Nest Camera (Battery), which is plugged in with the optional power cable.

Same problem. I have 1 Google Nest cam and 2 Ring cams. The power goes out and the Ring cams come back online. The Google Nest cam does not. I was going to replace my Ring cameras with Google because I have multiple Google homes. Unless Google actually responds to the issue, I will be keeping Ring and replacing the third cam with Ring instead.

Sorry to hear if you're having an issue with your Nest Cam Outdoor. Let's check — is this the first time you encounter this issue? Did you check the status light of your camera after the power outage? Also, are you using the original power cable and adapter that came with it?

No not the first time I’ve had the issue. Yes I’m using the original power cable. The issue is only when we lose power. The camera does not automatic come back online unless we un plug it and plug back in or go through the painful setup process. Not at all user friendly.

This is not the experience we'd like you to have. To confirm, are you using a power strip to turn on your Nest Cam Outdoor? If so, try to plug in your camera directly to a wall outlet.

This is a perennial problem. None of our cameras are plugged into power strips and two of our non-battery cameras did not come back online after a power outage two weeks ago until I unplugged them and plugged them back in. Our oldest camera and our doorbells came back online without having to be unplugged and plugged back in. This happens whenever we have a power outage.

Mine is plugged directly into an outlet. A new receptacle with tight grip on the plug.

I just had a power failure & one of my cameras won't come back online even when the power is disconnected. It's hardwired to a switch. I cut it off for 3 minutes multiple times with no luck. Is there another solution?

I've had to unplug the outdoor cameras from their middle connection point (the USB part) rather than the end connection at the outlet to get mine working whenever this happens. For interior cameras I have to again unplug the USB cable from the outlet plug and not just unplug the wall outlet plug to get the cameras back to working. I'll be replacing all of my nest cameras in the near future because of this issue.

I have figured out the issue and it is not the Nest Cam! There was something wrong with the electrical outlet. Since that has been fixed, there are no issues.
