Motion Detection doesn't work for Security Purposes

I have just bought 2 Nest Outdoor battery and the Nest Doorbell Battery. All of them have the same issue: sensibility (in all settings) is poor and therefore, motion detection does not work with camera in idle. I have tried all the things people here usually try with no success. So here are my examples:

Example 1: I have a driveway with 2 cars in line and the camera at back wall, facing both cars rear. No matter what happens, motion of or around the car at the front of the driveway (far from the camera) is never captured. So it is pointless regarding anything that may happen to that car, even with "all motion" setting defined. The front car comes and goes daily and a record of this is never captured.

Example 2: I have a rear garden and my dog goes there frequently. Same thing here: no record at all with max sensibility, all motion settings enabled. A Falcon could grab my dog and I would not know.

Example 3: The doorbell camera is only activated when people are really close or pushing the doorbell. So for security is pointless. Someone can be right at the front of the house and throw a rock and I would not know.

I should have researched this before buying these but I trusted a company as big as Google to give at least a good product.

In my personal opinion, you guys should improve this even if it cost some battery life. I read elsewhere that it captures a frame each 5 seconds? This frequency should be way higher to properly identify motion. And also, more settings so the user can define what works for him/her. In my case, I have small motions (dog, car far from the camera) that are really important and the product does not do what it says.

Google shall work this, otherwise is a FAKE product.

My impression, judging from other posts in this forum, is that, when running in battery mode (and therefore in "Idle" mode), the Google Nest Camera (Battery) is poor at detecting events. (The Google Nest Doorbell [Battery] always runs off of the battery, even when wired.)

We have had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) plugged in with the optional power cable since Sept. 2021 and it is "Live" at all times and picks up events just fine.

Yes, I assume that's a energy management matter. However, no where Google says that Motion Detection is deteriorated when battery powered and that's what I'm not satisfied about.

In my case, the real good tradeoff here was the possibility to have the camera working without a wired power source, even if paying more than double when comparing to a wired solution. So, at this point I feel like I don't have a camera at all, know what I mean? And because of that, I'm not satisfied at all.

Hope Google comes with a fix for it. I prefer to charge the cam every 2 weeks and have it properly detecting motion than every 2 months without detection. In one case I feel I have a camera, the other case I don't.

I´ve contacted support. They suggested changing a setting: turn off the battery saver and asked to check in a couple of days. Well... doesn't seem to have change anything....

Given similar posts on this, I think a fair question for Google Nest is whether the Google Nest Camera (Battery)--as well as the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)--simply performs rather poorly at detecting and recording events when operating on battery power.

Hello @Brad , I have exactly the same issue. I have NEST AWARE subscription and I get no motion notifications, nor history events. I also recall since April-May I notice the battery life goes from 2 weeeks to 9 months in the HOME APP. So Nest Doorbell battery is always in IDLE MODE (unless I open the LIVE VIEW in the HOME App or press the ring in the doorbell). So is like having just a regular "ringing bell" by the price of a "NEST DOORBELL BATTERY" and a "NEST AWARE SUBSCRIPTION". You get my point?? Thanks in advance @Brad , I hope GOOGLE TEAM solve this issue, I already left feedback in HOME APP.

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://goo.gle/3A7x7ug web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

@Brad, I believe everyone here is waiting for a proper answer from Google for either a new software release that would fix or at least improve the behavior ON BATTERY or an official response that this is the expected behavior for the cameras and unfortunately does not fit the purpose of a security camera.
