Cant change the notification sound

Nest doorbell uses the default phone notification sound which means it is indistinguishable from other alerts. Clearly, the default notification is unimportant and is ignored 99% of the time because it is a mundane alert for news and unimportant apps.

This is a doorbell. I need to be notified when it rings... it's kind of the no. 1 requirement...

Using the default notification sound almost guarantees that i will be unlikely to respond making the device completely and utterly useless as a doorbell.

I can't believe i have to say this but... the nest doorbell needs a unique notification alert so it can actually be used.

Is there nobody in the google nest product department thats actually used this in a real life situation??? If any of you actually did, you would realise in the first 5 minutes of ownership - "oh, that's stupid isnt it. That's a pretty critical requirement... how could we miss that. Well, we'd better make that a priority to get fixed. The device is useless otherwise..."

Hi Sssssss,

This can be changed in Android device settings. Depending on what version of Android you are using it could be in a different location.

On my Pixel running Android 12 it's in Settings/Notifications/App settings/Home

I have Samsung S21. I am running Android 12.

There is no "App Settings" in Settings >> Notifications

Under "Recently Sent" there is "Home" but there is no option to change from "Default"

Hi again,

After searching I found this information for a Samsung S21....

Go to phone settings -> Apps and select your app. Go to the Notifications page and tap on the Messages option (also toggle). Opens a new menu with different notification options.

Let us know if that works for you?

Thanks. That takes me to the same place - as per the screenshot in my last reply.

There is no "messages" option - When I click Notifications - I get the same screen as in the screenshot.

This is odd. I remember actually changing notification tones for Messages and Whatsapp - My message tones are different to everything else (to allow differentiation) - I cant even find how to do that now. I am assuming that one of the recent Android updates has removed this capability?

I have contacted Samsung support and Samsung has NO capability to change notifications per app. There is only One single default notification for everything EXCEPT Messages/SMS...

I assume this is an android screen and Samsung have "removed" this feature/functionality? That's annoying

Wow, I didn't know this, sorry.

I just assumed that Samsung might have this in a different location on the version of Android that they ship but didn't think that they would remove the option.
