Nest Doorbell (battery) with existing Byron SX15 wireless chime system

Good afternoon,

I'm planning to purchase a Nest Doorbell (battery), and I've yet to find a conclusive answer to a question I have about chimes. I understand that the ND can be hard-wired with a transformer and an existing powered chime, but my question is more related to how the chime trigger operates. Can the ND be used to trigger a chime without the transformer? I.e. will it close a circuit when the button is pressed, even if it is not fed from a mains transformer?

What I'd ideally like to do is re-use an existing Byron SX15 wireless doorbell system. It was in the house when I bought it, and the SX-15 units receive a wireless trigger and then use their massive D cells to ring an actual bell that could wake the dead. In our large Victorian house, it's perfect for both audible range and style. What I was hoping to do is to be able to have the ND on a base on the wall outside, and hide the old SX-15 doorbell circuit board within the base, wired to the trigger of the ND. Ideally, a visitor would push the ND, which would close the circuit on the SX-15 doorbell, triggering the wireless chimes indoors.

This might be a stretch too far, but it seems a shame not to try and re-use existing door chimes when there's already so much e-waste in the world.

Hi Roboticexile, I'm an end user like you. I'm also an electronics geek and a lot time nest cam user. To be honest I don't think anyone is going to know the answer to this. You may just have to buy one and try it out and if it doesn't do what you want then return it within the proper window of opportunity.

If you do end up trying it be sure to play with the settings in the app that let you say if you have a door chime or not and how long the contact closer is. I think you can set it from between 1 second and 10 seconds, or something like that.

If you try it I would love to hear back if it worked or not.
