Battery vs Wired

We installed two outdoor cameras with floodlights at least two months ago. They are wired but we now have a message saying their batteries are dead. Why do they need batteries if they are wired in? Or are our settings wonky somewhere?

I believe the way they are designed is the batteries must be in working condition for the cameras to operate. The fact that they are plugged in only provides a trickle charge function and that is it.

For this I believe you need to speak to an actual Nest Technician and see if these are covered under warranty. You can open a support ticket with this link and it will let you speak with someone. Be prepared to take about an hour as this can sometimes be a lengthy process.

I'm sorry to hear that and I know how important your Nest Doorbell (battery) is for your home security. Let's get this sorted. Did you fully charge the doorbell before installing it? What's the status light of the camera? Also, did you set up the camera as wired not battery?

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I don’t think they should use the battery if wired. I have had two others installed wired for three years with no hitch. I also have another not wired and it needs charging every month or so. I’ll keep looking but thanks for responding!

Thanks for this reply. We set both cameras up according to instructions for wiring which involved no more than hard wiring them. I can’t now detach them for charging.

I already have two other nest cameras and they work perfectly although both are internal.

I’m wondering if they may have fused somehow as they are on an extension lead. I’ll check this out before proceeding.

Problem solved. There was no power getting to the cameras and so they’d defaulted to battery use. Power now reinstated, many thanks for all responses.
