Camera battery outdoor

id like to know where Google gets its 1.5 month as a minimum battery life for the outdoor camera ??
Mine is newly bought and needs to be charged once a week . I have all the battery saving mechanisms turned on … and fully charge it for 5 hours as requested and yet only get the one week barely ??
Any other members have this problem .

There are MANY postings in this forum about needing to charge the Google Nest Camera (Battery) far more often than implied in the marketing literature. I'm thankful we bought the optional power cable and have ours plugged in all the time (since Sept. 2021) so we don't have to deal with frequent charging (or various other charging issues).

This is true … but I bought the camera based on battery estimate… and feel it is quite misleading ….my biggest fear is that the battery will wear down faster over time and have a shorter lifespan 😞

I'm actually going through the same issue, so far only response is extreme temperature impacts battery life. I can somewhat believe this since my backyard camera doesn't have a problem and the sun sets on that side. Currently on replacement camera #2 and ongoing issue on driveway where the sun rises and Florida USA summers are hot.

I have read all the literature on charging etc … Google are completely misleading the public on this cameras battery … there is no way I could see it would last the anywhere near the predicted 3-7 months short off turning it off .

It’s a security camera so reducing wake up time / recording time quality defeats the purpose of its use … it would be useless in the event of security breach .

I live in quite a temperature stable environment neither too hot nor too cold :)but thank you … my main gripe is that I feel it’s very misleading publishing these battery times … it has excellent resolution / picture quality

Chris1414, thanks for sharing that I can understand where you're coming from. Let's get this sorted — a few questions: where is your Nest Doorbell (battery) located? Was there any power outage recently? Also, do you keep it connected to the charger until it's fully charged?

Going over the steps here might help:

Adjust the angle of your camera to a more productive area that catches fewer unimportant activities.
Your doorbell’s camera has a tall field of view, so installing it 4 ft (1.2 m) high can help it view people and packages.
If there’s a wall blocking one side of the view, consider using the included wedge to angle your doorbell.
If all else fails, factory reset your doorbell.

The issue here is the battery life for the Google Nest Camera (Battery), but your answer refers to the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery).

Adding to the original concern, now the camera battery is charging slowly. It was mounted outside and while charging inside it's saying extreme temperature and both camera/charger are warm.

I don't know why your camera would report extreme temperatures while charging it indoors, unless it previously got overheated while outside.

We have had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) since Sept. 2021, plugged in all the time with the optional power cable, and it has been "Live" at all times and has never reported extreme temperatures in Minnesota winter temperatures as cold as 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit and Minnesota summer temperatures as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The camera is installed under an outdoor shade. Our older Google Nest outdoor cameras are either under an overhang or under a shade; it seems to make a difference, since none of them malfunction due to temperature.

Yeah it's not wired outside so my guess it's that since the sun rises on drive way and is maintained wireless.

Firstly it’s a nest camera , secondly no there was no power outage recently and thirdly are you seriously asking me if I fully charge the camera battery prior to use ….. of course I do 🙄….
