continuity of a nest doorbell

I have a wired Nest Doorbell and I think it is broken

Using a continuity checker, it shows that the two connections on the back are connected at all times and the button on the front makes no difference

Therefore if I connect to the doorbell wire it activates the doorbell.

Is it broken or am I missing something

At first glance, it seems like either the doorbell's button is stuck or some connection inside is broken. Have you tried pushing the button a bunch of times to see if the problem is just a stuck button?

I'm just another Google Nest customer with 3 Nest Hellos.

That what I thought , can you confirm that there should not be a connection between the back terminals when the door bell is disconnected . Can you check one of yours?

I'd rather not pull off one of our Nest Hellos; it's raining here.

However, I think you should expect to detect some continuity. The Chime Connector that gets wired to your indoor chime is designed to provide continuous power to the doorbell's camera without tripping the chime. So there should always be power running through the doorbell when it is connected. The internal battery (yes, there is one) is somehow used when the doorbell button is pressed to trigger the indoor chime.

The thing that struck me about your post was that just connecting the doorbell to the doorbell wires activates the chime; at least that's how I interpreted it.

Am I misunderstanding? Is there something else that leads you to say it is broken?

Note that there is a problem where the internal battery wears out after 1 or 2 years, causing the internal chime to not work and the doorbell to briefly go offline when the doorbell is pushed. Google Nest won't replace it if it's older than a year. The workaround is to turn off your indoor chime and use "Visitor announcements" on a Nest Hub or Nest Mini:

Thanks for your help, I thought I was pushing it to ask you to take one off.
iIs there anyone that still has one in a box that could just check the continuity across the back terminals?

As I said earlier, I think you'd have to have an open circuit on a continuity check on the Nest Hello. It needs continuous power to run the camera 24/7.
