@HuguleyMMA1992

I don't think the camera runs off of the battery. The floodlight camera is quite similar to the Google Nest Camera (Battery) that we have had for 13 months, plugged in all the time with the optional power cable. The camera differs from the new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery), which does indeed run off of the battery even when wired. The help page below says: "Nest Cam (battery) works differently than Nest Doorbell (battery). For wired installation setups with a Nest Cam (battery), the wires power the camera directly. At temperatures below freezing, the battery won’t charge, but as long as the wired power source is available, the camera can operate in temperatures down to -4°F (-20°C)."

If the floodlight camera is correctly connected to power, the battery should not deplete. Our Google Nest Camera (Battery) is at between 77% and 100% whenever we unplug it to check the battery level.

Three problems affecting charging of our camera have been noted in this forum; perhaps they also affect charging of the floodlight camera:

1) The charging cable has to feed towards the FRONT of the camera.

2) Some charging cables (or the associated cameras) are defective, causing the camera to not charge. Google Nest has replaced charging cables and/or cameras in some cases.

3) On some cameras, the plug that inserts into the bottom of the camera has fallen apart.

When the battery camera (and the floodlight camera) are plugged in, the camera should always be "Live" and when you go to Settings | Battery for the camera, it should say "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol. If it does not--if you see the battery level instead--there is something wrong. Only when the camera is unplugged does Settings | Battery show the battery charge level.

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989?hl=en

I’ve seen one or two forums digging into this issue, but there doesn’t seem to be a true answer. My understanding is the actual lights are the hardwired portion of the floodlight, but the camera is operating off of the battery. Odd set up, curious as to why that would even be a thing, but running into an issue with the battery. Mine is currently dead and unable to run the cameras & even the light.

Does anyone have any insight regarding this issue?

Additionally, there was mention of a charge cable, but it wasn’t included nor is it an easy cable to find, if there even is really one for sale….

Any assistance is appreciated, especially from Google, would prefer a real conversation versus the bland base response, let’s figure it out.
