Nest indoor wired night vision not working

Is there an ongoing issue with night mode? Camera in garage hasn’t moved, nothing changed but now it’s almost completely black where as before looked pretty good. Same with living room. Both have auto on night mode selected.

Does night mode turn on when you change the setting to just “ON”? Or still nothing?

There's a very long thread with over 100 replies on this issue; it's not happening to all customers, and Google Nest acknowledges it as a problem:
