Zones trigger different events

I'd like to have my nest cam record animal activities in 1 zone without turning on the spotlights, but have another zone turn on the lights when it sees people. Can this be done? Seems like the floods come on/off with any camera event. Is there a way to specify? Thanks!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, as I can imagine it has been an inconvenience. I would love to look into this further for you. Do you have an active Nest Aware subscription? I would recommend getting one, but you should still be able to edit your settings in each zone depending on which settings you want to change. Here is a great link on how Nest Aware works and how to subscribe. In addition, here is a link on how to manage your subscription.

Hello all,

I see how I can change notifications for different things like "people" or "animals" in different zones. But I don't see options for having the spotlight respond differently to different zones. It only has one option for basically all "camera events". I was trying to be more selective about which "camera events" caused the light to turn on. One example would be notify me and only record (no spot light) for animals in one zone. And turn on spotlights and notify for all people. I also think it would be handy to say turn on spots for faces I don't recognize. Is there any way to do these types of things?

Hey Borhaaa,

Absolutely! There are a few ways to find and categorize unfamiliar faces in the Home app.

Settings:

Open the Google Home app .
Tap Settings > Nest Aware > Familiar face detection.
If your camera has detected new people, you can tap New faces to find and categorize them.
For each new face, tap Yes, No, or Not a person. Then, follow the on-screen prompts to identify the face.

To find anything you’ve tagged as Not a person, go to Familiar face detection > tap Options > Faces that aren’t people.

The Feed:

Open the Google Home app .
Tap the Feed tab.
Choose the unfamiliar face event or group of events.
Tap Add to face library, and then follow the prompts to identify each face your camera didn’t recognize.

Camera event details:

Tap the camera event in the Feed or home history.
Once the clip is open, swipe up for more details.
In the “Faces” category, tap Manage, then follow the prompts to identify the faces your camera didn’t recognize.

Thank you for the clarification. In each Activity Zone that you set up in the Google Home app, you will be able to adjust the settings for which kind of events are recorded or ignored. I do not believe that you have the option to set up whether the floodlight comes on or not in each zone, but you could look into routines or schedules to achieve that, possibly. Yah I was basically trying to use the camera to say that's someone I don't recognize , turn in the light. That is an animal, leave the light off. That is someone I know (have options to turn on or off). Seems like the spotlights only have one option and that is to turn on when there is a camera event, but it doesn't get any more granular than that. Kind of all or nothing.
