Thanks for the reply. Can the doorbell not just send a signal to the chime via the wires to be rang as the chime box has its own power?

I'm looking at buying a Nest Doorbell (Battery) as it's not possible at the moment to install the wired version. My chime box is one of those with a built in transformer and from what I gather it's only 6v. I understand the chime box is completely underpowered to give any power whatsoever to the nest doorbell but if the button is pressed will it still make the chime box ding just like the standard old doorbell?

Well, I decided to take a chance and bought one anyway. It arrived and I installed it wired and guess what? It works and rings the chime even though it's clearly stated on the transformer that it's only 6v. Honestly I didn't think it would work but it does. Anyway I'm happy.

@MrNumnuts it's really good to hear that it's working now. However, we can't guarantee how long it will continue to work with that 6V. Try to monitor its behavior and if in case you have an update, you know where to find us. Let me know if you have any additional questions from here.
