Nest Cam: receiving notifications of myself when I get home

Hey there,

I am using Nest Aware, and my wife and I are both getting notifications of that one of us was seen on the living room cam. It seems to happen when we are both out of the house, and one of us enters our home.

Perhaps I was mistaken when I bought this camera: I thought I could build a database of familiar faces so it would only trigger on unfamiliar faces.

I am hoping to be able to set up the camera in such a way that it only records and notifies when we are not home. I don't need to get a notification of myself being home, I am almost always aware of my own location 😁

All that Google Nest's familiar faces feature does is state the person's name if it recognizes them, and give you the opportunity to identify who an unfamiliar face is and add it to the familiar faces library. There is no way to just get notifications when an unfamiliar person is detected.

We haven't found it useful and don't use it. I've seen lots of posts from customers wanting it to work the way you do.

If it doesn't work that way, I would agree with you that I don't see the use of having this.

I do still hope someone will be able to help me with the notifications 🙂

The request you have is not a possibility, so this thread would be considered a feature request. As it does not currently exist, I have no troubleshooting steps to provide. Thank you for your feature request and the feedback you have provided.

Hi Brad,

But why are we getting notifications when we are home/arrive home? Nest aware should know we are home or arriving home the moment we connect to wifi, or our arrival is triggered otherewise. Right?

It may be that your mobile device's geofencing isn't working as intended with your cameras. Have you tried to simply turn off and on the Home and Away settings? I understand this is a simple step, but it could help fix these notification concerns.
