topic Does Flood with camera need to be "on" in Home app for motion detection to work? in Cameras and Doorbells

My camera with flood was working flawlessly for well over a year. Lately, the light has not been coming on with motion. The camera still works; I get push notifications for motion and recording starts. I can access the camera and flood via the app. I've noticed that the flood (under lighting in the app) is "off". When I turn it "on", it stays on all day and night, disregarding the settings for it in the app, which are to only come on for 1 min after motion detection and dark conditions.

Does the home app need to "on" for this to work? If so, why does it stay on all the time? If it's "off" in the app, is that like a physical switch, cutting power to it? If so, how does the camera work?

TIA.

Mark

Hello striperseeker,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I’m sorry to hear that your Nest Cam with Floodlight isn’t working correctly. Let’s check it out.

Let's try these troubleshooting steps below:

Check for any iOS or Android updates.

Uninstall the Home app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.

Update the floodlight settings if needed.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Lance
