We have a Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) and a Google Nest Hub (2nd gen). They all paired well but since 2 months the Doorbeel keeps "inactive" on the Hub. We are able to stream the video to the Hub as well to our phones via Google Home. But we do not get any notifications in any form on the Hub when someone is at the door.
I have already reset the device multiple times, disconnected it from Home and reconnected again, but nothing works.

Here is a screenshot where you have the "inactive" label (in Dutch) on the upper left corner:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/15yVpb0oCvRhq_jlYd4Ov85QWq2-1JqC4/view?usp=sharing

Please advice us.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

@Chapelic, thanks for reaching out to the Community and for all the details you’ve shared. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest Doorbell (battery). I’d be happy to help you with this. Let’s check it out.

Based on the image you’ve shared, the battery of the doorbell is almost empty at 19%. If you have a Nest Doorbell (battery), it will automatically adjust its settings and features when it has about 7 days of battery life left (or about 20% of its remaining battery life). Here's what you can expect:

The video quality is optimized to help improve the battery life.

Video events like people, vehicles, animals, and packages will not be recorded.

When someone presses the doorbell button, your doorbell will record video for about 20 seconds following the button press.

Emergency events will still be recorded at the default 3-minute clip length.

Your doorbell will turn off its wake-up sensitivity for a few hours. This means that it will only wake up if you turn it on in the app or if someone presses the doorbell button.

I’d suggest unmounting the doorbell, then connecting it to the USB cable and power adapter. It takes approximately five hours to fully charge the battery using a compatible 7.5W AC adapter (sold separately).

Also, here’s a handy guide with tips on how to save battery for Nest cameras and doorbells.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I appreciate your help, EmptyNester.

Best,

Hi there,

Thanks for trying the steps. If the Google Nest Hub still displays "Doorbell inactive" or "Doorbell offline". let's give these steps a try.

If all connected devices in your home go offline, there might be an issue with the router or network. Restart your router, modem, and any Wi-Fi range extenders or repeaters that you have.

Unplug your modem and router power cords. Tip: You may have a combination modem/router, or they might be separate devices. All the lights on your modem and router should be off.

Wait for 30 seconds, then plug your modem and router back in.

Your modem and router will restart. Wait a couple of minutes or until you see steady power and connection lights. You may also see a quickly flashing data light. Note: Every router is different. You might need to consult your router's user manual for specific instructions on how to restart your router.

Open the offline camera's video stream and wait a few minutes.

If the live video stream appears, the camera has reconnected. If none of your devices reconnect, there might be a network outage in your area. Contact your internet service provider for more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Worked great before.

Notifications after ringing the nest doorbell work on the phone but not anymore via the nest hub.

The doorbell is connected to a power supply, so it is not a battery issue. As the notifications work on the phone and i can also view the livestream on the phone and the nest hub, it is also not a network issue.

Can anybody help?

Br, Marcel

Ahh got it! You can deactivate the notifications for speakers and screens in the settings of the doorbell. I must have accidentally switched it off.
