False vehicle notifications

Our floodlight cameras falsely detect our parked vehicles multiple times each night. Rain, wind and fog seem to trigger the camera and then the camera turns on and records my already parked, unmoving vehicles.

It makes it really hard to rely on a camera notification when the notifications are inaccurate.

I also don't want to adjust my monitoring area because I would like to know if someone is breaking in to our vehicles.

So far our cameras do accurately detect other vehicles, but at night its not accurate at all. We had 23 false notifications last night. Below is just one example - my phone vibrates every.single.time.

Is there a fix in place for this? It's so frustrating.

I have the exact same issue and it's even more annoying by the fact that I have drawn up a zone that excludes where I park my car, but it still keeps triggering vehicle notifications every time there's rain and snow or if my furnace is on which blows a condensation cloud into the field of view of my camera.

@TNT_ranch, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, do you have a Nest Aware subscription?

There are a few things that can trigger unwanted alerts or false positives, here are common triggers to name a few:

Changes in the light level
Shadow moving across the frame. For example, if a cloud moves in front of the sun.
Trees or bushes swaying near the customer’s important areas.
Headlights or flashing entering the field of view.

Try restarting your Nest Camera and make sure to wipe its lens with a soft dry cloth and check if there is any condensation.

@bull3964, please take a photo of the condensation and upload it here so that we can check our options to help you.

I think you misunderstand. There's not condensation on the camera, it's condensation output from my HVAC system that drifts across the field of view of the camera. If there is hard rain, snow, or if my HVAC system is active (producing clouds of condensation that originate from the right hand side of the frame) I tend to get vehicle alerts despite a generous border around where my vehicle is parked.

Same issue for me. Nest flood cam with nest aware, car parked outside garage at night and any time of rain or snow will continually produce vehicle seen notifications. Nothing occluding the camera, just detecting doesnt work well when it’s raining or snowing, doesn’t matter if it’s day or night but it is worse at night.

Mine is happening in my backyard. There are no cars in my backyard causing the camera to send me a vehicle notification.

Same here. It's getting very frustrating. A snow flake blowing by just right will trigger it over and over. Even with my zones adjusted so there's no vehicle there at all. Also headlights from the road

Hello folks,

I appreciate the update. Try creating a separate zone for areas where you expect events to happen and where events can be ignored.

To set up Activity Zones:

On the Google Home app
- Tap Favorites or Devices .
- Select your Nest Camera you want to set up Activity Zones for.
- On the top-right, tap More Settings EventsSeen events.
- Tap + Add a zone to create zones.

Once the zones are set, you can disable notifications for irrelevant areas by following through these steps:

Open the Home or Nest app and select your Nest Camera you want to set activity zones for.
Tap Settings .
Select Notifications.
Tap the zone’s name you want to modify.
Choose which event types you’d like to receive notifications for by toggling the slider on and off.
