Nest camera reached 153f (indoor wired)

My camera reached 153 degrees f (67 c), inside, in a 70 degree f house.

Is this normal or should I be concerned about the safety of this in my home?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A few questions: do you see any messages or codes in the app? In what area is your Nest Camera installed? Make sure you use your camera in the environment it was designed for.

Please check these tips below on how to keep your camera or doorbell cool:

Put your camera or doorbell in a well-ventilated space.
If your camera is hidden, make sure air can flow around it.
Don’t encase your camera or doorbell in a container that could cause overheating.
Don't cover your camera or doorbell with cloth, molded silicone covers or skins, or any other materials.

Hey,

I did not see any error codes in the nest app, but a few days prior I moved the camera a few feet and after that the night vision stopped working for a night.

The camera is inside in a room. Either sitting on a dresser or the floor and not in a place sunlight could hit it, or near any other heat source.

It was and is in a well ventilated space, without any containers, covers, or skins.

I unplugged the camera for a bit and since then the temperature has stayed lower, often slightly over 100f.

I'm sorry you're running into this situation with your Nest camera. I know how frustrating it can be when your security system isn't working as expected.

I understand that since the camera was moved, the temperature is currently over 100°F, which is slightly above the recommended operating range for Nest Cam Indoor (32°F to 104°F).

For safety reasons, I highly recommend turning off the camera immediately to prevent any potential damage. I would like to know if the camera still reaches 153°F.

@gmelanymelissa I don't know where you got your temperature numbers from but the original post said it was in INDOOR camera inside a home at 70 degrees. If this is the case then can't you just stop making this person jump thru hoops and offer to replace the camera?

Hey,
I unplugged it for a bit and plugged it back in. Since then I have been monitoring and my camera has stayed well below 153.
All three of my nest cameras run a bit hot, but I think that's just normal for them.

I think that's the contact form I tried before posting here.
The rep I talked to said it was normal, but, I had a feeling we were not understanding each other and he thought it was in direct sun or in a hot room or was confusing f/c or something.

Hi Lowtoast,,,, Ummmm, looking at your IR images I don't think you have a "Nest Cam Indoor". You have a very old Nest DROPCAM which will stop working any day now as nest has stopped supporting them all together.
