wireless doorbell not have a chime?

I have a wireless Nest doorbell purchased in 4/2024. Is there a different notification between when the button is pushed vs. motion? I've seen older posts with this question and hope a new solution exists.

The battery is at 70% and I've confirmed I have the most current version of the iOS Google Home app. What am I missing?

Maybe it's different for 2nd gen doorbells. We get a "ding-dong chime" doorbell sound on our iPhones when the doorbell button is pressed on our 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells, controlled by whether we have "Push notifications" enabled. For all other notifications we get a standard notification sound.

However, if I'm wearing my Apple Watch, then I get a standard notification on my watch only when the doorbell button is pressed.

For all other notifications:

On an Android phone, customers can apparently change the notification sound by going to Settings | Notifications | App Settings, finding the "Google Home" app entry, and scrolling down to "Doorbell press notifications".

On iPhones, all we can do is to change the "Default Alerts" sound by going into Settings | Sounds & Haptics | Default Alerts.

Thanks for your response. I've checked the settings on my phone as you suggested and my settings matched. I was hoping (or assuming) that I would receive different notifications between when the doorbell was pushed and when motion was detected. Currently, both have the same notification, which is very subtle. Since motion is detected 10x more frequently, I'd prefer to not have an air raid siren as the default notification.

I've noticed that other posts mentioned the "ring indoor chime" setting (Google Home>doorbell>settings>doorbell) should be active. This setting is greyed out. Does this only apply to wired doorbells?

Since this is wireless is my only option to add a Nest speaker?

The "Indoor chime" ("ring indoor chime") option is greyed out and disabled automatically if you have a battery doorbell that is NOT wired to an indoor doorbell chime.

I don't know why the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell, installed in the Google Nest app, generates a "ding-dong" notification sound on our iPhones while the 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Doorbell, installed in the Google Home app, does not do so on your iPhone.

If you enable "Visitor announcements" on your doorbell (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451), you'll get a "ding-dong" sound and an oral "Someone's at the front door" announcement on all of your Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and Nest speakers (except for those set to "Do not disturb"), and on Nest Hubs a live stream of the camera will be displayed as well. We use this because the internal batteries on all three of our Nest Hellos have died and so we've turned off the "Indoor chime" option to prevent them from going offline. (This is a defect affecting many Nest Hello owners.)

Looks like a Nest mini may be our best option. However, it doesn't solve the problem when we are not home. Can someone add this to the nest wireless doorbell enhancement list? 😀

Can I use automations to solve wireless doorbell notification problem?

I've followed the automation setup process in the Google Home app and don't see a way to send the notification to the phones linked to the Home. (It looks like other devices are an option.)

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that you received different notifications when someone pressed the button and also with motions; this could be confusing and not accurate when you were away. help's here. I really appreciate the help, @MplsCustomer.

@ByronP Thanks for the response. My problem is I can’t have separate audible alerts between motion and when the doorbell is pushed. The notification alerts are clearly stated. I would like to know the difference by the alert sound rather than having to read the alert each time. Anything in your bag of tricks?

Thank you for posting. Unfortunately, this option is not available yet. I understand how important it is to separate the notifications. We need to improve our devices. Please share feedback to address it better in future updates.

Thank you for your post. I understand that this functionality isn´t what you expected from the device. That´s why we´re continuously improving the features of the 2nd Gen Battery Doorbell. @MplsCustomer, that is correct; these features are not available for these devices.

For home automation, you can set the notifications with an external device like Google Speaker or display to use as a chime (similar to a regular doorbell sound). You can create routines using Google Home when the doorbell rings, but these routines won´t be customizable. Here you can find the instructions to create and manage routines for Google Home automation.

As mentioned before, you can submit your feedback to request these features for future updates.
