Chromecast remote not working then got hot when trying to reconnect

My remote stopped working so I disconnected it because my TV remote speaks to the chromecast. When attempting to reconnect the remote began to get hot until I removed the batteries. As a firefighter this is not safe operations.

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your Voice Remote.

A few questions — what is the LED light status in your Voice Remote? Was anything spilled onto the device? Can you confirm if the metal contacts of the battery terminal look contaminated, blocked, or discolored?

Try these steps and observe the behavior of your voice Remote:

Go to Settings > System > About > Factory Reset. Select Factory Reset again and select Erase to confirm the reset.
Replace all batteries at the same time. Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not use lithium-ion or any other batteries with rated voltage above 1.5 V.
