Chromecast WiFi cannot connect when setting up

So I purchased my mother who lives eight hours away a Chromecast (3rd Gen.) for her non-smart television that’s twelve years old.

She is having issues finishing her setup.

Here is what she has done:

1. She has an iOS device that’s up-to-date, downloaded the latest version of Google Home.

2. She has a strong WiFi connection

3. She got the part where it asks her to connect to her WiFi. She found her WiFi network and entered her WiFi password but it couldn’t connect.
4. She tried Factory Reset on the Google Chromecast, resetting her router, trying it on a different device, even a different room on a different television but still no success.

It’s taken me years to convince her to use one and she finally is interested. Nevertheless, what is supposed to be simple isn’t, it’s taken days to setup a simple device.

What can be done to finalize her setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does it show an error message in the Google Home app? Here is what we usually recommend.

Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router. If you have a dual band router, try to set up your device on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned ON on your phone or tablet.
Turn OFF mobile/cellular data.
Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.
Reboot Chromecast by removing the power cable, then reconnect it.
Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app, by checking your app store for any updates.
Restart the Google Home app.

iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Google Home app.
Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.
Reopen the Google Home app.

If none of the steps above help, factory reset your Chromecast and then retry setup. You may also want to try setup using a different phone or tablet, just to test, if you have one.

I’m having the same issue. Factory reset doesn’t work. Nothing is working and I see many posting about the same issue.

Thanks for reaching out. Let's sort this out.

Quick questions — are you getting any messages when connecting your Chromecast to the network using your iOS device? What's the iOS version of your mobile device?

Try the steps;

Check if access to Local Network is turned on. To turn on Local Network, go to the phone's Settings > Tap Privacy > Tap Local Network > Select the Google Home app.
Try to set up the device again.
If the issue persists, manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone’s Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.
