Hello everyone. I purchased a chromecast to use at our cottage which has no internet connection. I setup the chromecast at home with an active internet connection but when I take the router to the cottage and set everything up I cannot cast.

My tablet can see the chromecast on the home app but when I try to cast everything just freezes. I did enable the guest feature and still no luck.

Does anyone have an idea if it is possible? If not looks like it was a useless purchase.

Thank you in advance!

I'm sorry, that won't work.

Chromecast devices require a connection to a network with full internet access to work.

Guest Mode is different. That allows devices (phones and tablets) that are not on your WiFi network to talk to your Chromecast while it is on the network.

That's unfortunate. Wished that was stated somewhere. The requirements page sates the following:

Hardware and broadband requirements

All Chromecast devices require a TV with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) 1.3 or higher built-in. HDCP 2.2 is required to support 4K content. Most televisions that are five years old or newer and have HDMI ports will have at least one port that supports HDCP 2.2.

In order to view 4K or Ultra High-definition (UHD) content, in addition to the requirements listed above, your equipment must meet the following requirements:

For 4K content, you need a 4K-capable TV and a high-speed internet connection (at least 20 Mbps).

For High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, you need an HDR-capable TV.

From my understanding you need a high speed internet connection to view 4k content. It does not state anywhere that an internet connection is required to cast.

Yes, I wish that page was more clear about the network.

The bottom of the Chromecast's box actually says "Chromecast requires: a TV with an HDMI port, a Wi-Fi network, and a compatible computer or mobile device." But, it's very small print

I'll submit feedback on that Help Center page to Google.
