Google TV issue - 4k Dolby Vision 1080p only

Does anyone know if Google has acknowledged the issue? Possible solution other than buying a newer TV?

(Note. My Dolby Vision Blu-ray player works just fine through the same equipment. All pieces have been tested and ruled out with the only part left being the TV)

I just bought a CCWGTV to solve an issue with Apple 4K TV. Both seem to have the same problem but handle it differently. I found other posts on Reddit with the same issue, seems to have happened after a CCWGTV software update last year.

One post mentions their TV is a 2016 model. Mine is too, so I’m thinking the Dolby Vision version may be the culprit. In my opinion, I think both Apple and Google neglected the earlier versions of DV.

The Apple device will only do DV if I set it to 1080p. It defaults to 4k UHD. The CCWGTV defaults to DV 1080p but can be set to 4k UHD.

(I also have a Chromecast Ultra that I was replacing too, it does DV at 4k through the same port)

Thanks for reaching out. What's the firmware version or build number of your Chromecast with Google TV? Please try to plug in the Chromecast with Google TV into a different HDMI port on your TV. Rebooting your Chromecast and trying on a different TV screen (If possible) might also help.

If the issue persists, please do a reset on your Chromecast. Here's how.

I swapped TVs. Everything else remains the same. The TV I swapped had HDMI 2.1 ports and it works that way. The other TV has HDMI 2.0a ports. Guessing someone forgot to make it backwards compatible.

Guess I’m not explaining well. I’ve tried those and far more. I know the problem. It’s HDMI 2.1 vs HDMI 2.0a. The device doesn’t recognize the 2016 Dolby Vision over a HDMI 2.0a port. From what I’ve determined, it must have something to do with the the signaling. HDMI 2.1 60hz and HDMI 2.0a 30hz. If the device doesn’t see Dolby Vision support at 60hz coming the TV, it sets the output for 4K UHD at 60hz instead of checking to see if Dolby Vision is supported at 30hz.

Well, it’s not really a resolution, just an explanation of what’s happening. Basically the CCWGTV should be able to recognize the older version of Dolby Vision and adjust its frame rate (backwards compatibility).
