Set up a chrome cast without a remote

Hi, our little boy has a love for smashing controllers. We now have three smash controllers and we’ve changed Wi-Fi networks so now I need to set up the Chromecast again but this time without a controller. I have factory reset the device but now I cannot get past the start pairing screen. Is there a way to bypass this without a USB-C hub or are these things just paper weights without the controller?

I'm sorry, but the setup process relies on the Voice Remote.
