Old chromecast can't connect to Home

Reset factory defaults on older generation Chromecast devices because network password changed. Now Google home will not connect to devices and shows devices need to be activated. All help appreciated!

SOLVED: you have to get the APK for the Google device utility and install it (for me on Android). Then you have to run the utility, follow the instructions, had to manually enter the Wi-Fi network password, and after connected went back to home and was able to correctly add the device. Thank you Google for your worthless **bleep** user interfaces.

I can't get my Chromecast to work either. It has worked in the past but I can't remember when I used it last. I am trying to get it working and it says it needs to be "activated." But I have no idea how to do that. I think I read somewhere that I need an app to do that but can't find what kind of app to use. It also told me I could use a different phone to get it activated. I've tried using my Google Pixel 4A and my wife's Pixel 6. No luck. How come a Pixel phone can't get it to work. Pretty bad.

It's a software download and a way to install software on Android devices that are no longer supported by the manufacturer. Like for example the Google Utility that used to be part of Home and is no longer there. This is why all the old devices can no longer connect through home.
