My Chromecast seems to be connected as it's displaying the matching phone images,but Stan will not cast.

Hey, I've had problems casting Stan also. It has always worked in the end. When it is playing up, I try different things to get it to start.
I've just tried Stan and it casts both the PC Chrome and from Stan app on Android.

But I've many times seen problems getting Stan to start up. Once it get started it then seems ok.

BP11, I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing an issue casting the Stan app on your TV. May I know what type of Chromecast device do you have? Are you getting any messages when casting video content from this specific app? Please try to clear the cache and data of the Stan app and reboot your mobile phone. Casting from a different mobile device and rebooting and resetting your Chromecast might also help.

Note: If the issue only occurs when casting from the Stan app, please reach out to the app developer for further help.
