Chromecast and YouTube issue

I try to cast YouTube videos by bringing them up on the YouTube app on my phone and selecting to cast. The TV just brings up a YouTube app instead of playing the video. Then I can't control the app from my TV remote or phone like it says. I would like to just get the video to play.

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue casting from YouTube to your TV. Let's sort this out.

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? Is this only happening on YouTube or across all apps? What's the make and model of your mobile phone?

Try these steps:

Clear the cache and data of the YouTube app.
Try to cast from another Chromecast-enabled app.
Reboot your router.
Reboot your mobile phone.
Reboot your Chromecast.
Try to use a different mobile phone.
Reset your Chromecast.
