Chromecast with Google TV screen has turned very dark

The device has been working fine for about a year, and all of a sudden, the screen has turned very dark.

I power the device from the 5V wall wart. I have tried disconnecting power for a few minutes, factory reset via the reset button on the device, and nothing works. It did reset, but the setup screen is very dark.

Any ideas?

Can you test it on a different HDMI port on your tv ?

I tried that- no good, but found that somehow the TVs settings for brightness and contrast has been set to their lowest values. I cranked them back up and it's good now.

I wonder how that happens. I'm the only one in the house and I didn't do that. The TV is old, so maybe starting to have problems.
