get error message for chromecast - disconnected device

I've setup chromecast succesfully with my iPhone and both the phone and chromecast dongle are on the same wifi network. Everything is enabled but when I go to connect it says disconnected device. I've tried rebooting chromecast several times and it's always completes setup but is still disconnected. Any thoughts?

When did this issue start happening?
Are you able to connect to the Chromecast from another device, such as a computer or tablet?
What color is the LED light on the Chromecast?
What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
