what do I do if the buildings community wifi password is too short for the chromecast wifi space so I can not enter the password?

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that password issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions:

How many characters is the password?
Is this a public Wi-Fi network?
Do you need to log in with a web-page to use this network?

I would make sure that this network type is compatible to be used with Chromecast first before moving on.
