1st gen chromecast doesnt connect to wifi

My chromecast connects when I go into my wifi and select Chromecast#### but since my wifi on my phone is connected to that and not the real network i am attempting to connect it to, it wont connect to my actual network. I try to switch it over on my phone while in the google home app as i am waiting for it to connect but then it just says there has been an error.

kmk, still having trouble connecting your Chromecast to your network? If so, try setting up your Chromecast using a mobile hotspot to isolate if this is network related issue. Let us know by updating this thread and the Community will be happy to lend a hand.
