Chromecast 4k Android 12 update causes screen flicker

I have a Benq projector with a Denon receiver.

I recently upgraded to the new Chromecast 4k. It was great and I was watching things in 4k 60Hz now.

But then I upgraded it to Android 12 last month and immediately there were flickers and white spots on the screen.

I tried everything in settings (toggling HDR/SDR, game mode, match content frame rate etc etc.) and nothing helped. I tried reducing from 4k 60Hz to 4k 30Hz or even 1080p and the screen would go blank and then would come back to 4k 60 Hz with the same flicker issue.

There was no way to downgrade to previous OS so I simply bought another Chromecast 4k which was on Android 10 and again things worked great till it auto-updated to Android 12 and now I am having same issue of screen flickers.

What is going on? Is there a fix? How can I downgrade to Android 10? Can I buy another Chromecast 4k and stop the auto update and remain on Android 10? Anything else I can do? I don't want Fire TV or Apple TV since I like to cast from my phone a lot.

Are you managing to "approve" the resolution change? Otherwise it will revert to 4k 60Hz. Attach direct to a TV and ensure the 30Hz mode is taken. Then connect it back up to your projector/receiver.

I have 5 of these CCs, all upgraded to 12, all went unstable in home screen. This does it affect playback frame rate as far as I can tell, just the gone screen.

That did not work (see the original post) - I clearly mention I tried that and how it did not work for me.

What worked? Looks like turning off "Enhanced 4k" mode in my Denon resolves this.

So, yes, this is a bug introduced in Android 12 for Chromecast 4k where it glitched with Enhanced HDMI output

Yes, I would like to know when this bug is fixed so I can turn back the enhanced 4k mode back on.

Hey there pathikrit,

If there is a bug with Android 12, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via Google Home? That way, if there are any error logs generated, it would get those set to the appropriate department to look into.

No this is not an issue in Google Home - in fact I don't even use Google Home. This is an issue in Chromecast 4k which broke Enhanced HDMI support with their Android 12 upgrade
