Chromecast won't connect to wifi.

I have the same problem as others in connecting my Chromecast with the wifi.

I am having problems getting my chromecast set up. I have seen a similar post to this but all the solutions that worked for them have not worked for me.

I have one chromecast set up for some time, and I recently purchased another one for my bedroom (I think it is 3rd Gen, but nothing says that it is); however I have not been able to get my new chromecast set up.

In the Google Home app, I am able to find the chromecast and start the set up process. It gets past the 'code' to confirm its the correct chromecast, but then once it tries to connect to wifi an error message pops up that says:

'Connection problem during setup; Could not communicate with your chromecast'

I have tried the following:

-Making sure that it is close enough to my modem but not touching other devices/wires (it is 6 feet from the router)

-Unplugging the chromecast and waiting 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in.

-Factory resetting it by holding down the button for at least 45 seconds (I tried this several times). Got the steady white light.

-Turning off data on my phone

-restarting my phone

-deleting and reinstalling the google home app

-restarting my internet modem

Unfortunately none of these solutions worked. I still get the same message when trying to set it up.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G phone, no other devices are available.

BTW - this query is very similar to https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Chromecast-Connection-Problem-During-Setup/td-p/184288, (I copied and pasted most of the original thread, modifying it slightly for what I have done) I got to the response from Jennifer V that stated:

Android devices:

Open your phone settings app > Turn on Location Services.
If the same issue occurs, turn off the screen overlay (only for Android 6.0 and above).
Here's how:
1. Go to phone Settings.
2. Tap on Apps > Apps Manager > Applications.
3. On the top right corner, tap the gear icon or the three vertical dots.
4. Look for Draw over other apps or Apps that can appear on top.
5. In some Android devices, you will need to tap on Special Access first, before you can get to Draw over other apps.
6. After a list of apps appears, tap on Google Play Services.
7. Switch the slider to the left to disable.
8. Reboot the device. Then, try to set up the device again.

however, my phone did not have the same settings on step 2, so I stopped and am sending this to you for further suggestions.

Hi BobRay,

Thanks for posting and for doing some steps beforehand. If the option to got to Apps Manager and applications isn't available in your phone, you may try to reach out to your phone manufacturer to check this.

However, if your Chromecast still won't connect to the network, you may try to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID: go to the phone settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.

Thanks for the answer. By a combination of the above and rebooting the chromecast (again), it was finally able to connect, but while updating Chromecast, it said it was taking too long, and stopped. I can now mirror my phone to the TV, but if I go to something like YouTube, I don't see the symbol for casting on the phone.

Hey BobRay,

Thanks for updating us and we appreciate your efforts.

Make sure your phone and Chromecast are connected to the same network and within 15-20 of your router. Try doing a sequential reboot: unplug your router/modem then reboot your Chromecast and phone. Give it 2-3 minutes then plug it all back in.

Success at long last. Rebooted everything. Set phone's wifi to chromecast, then I was able to install it to completion.
