USB-C hub on Chromecast

I connected a USB-C hub to my Chromecast so that I can play video files. It works no problem with video files that are less than 4GB. It will not play files larger than 4GB. Why hasn't Google updated this?

I have no problem playing files larger than 4GB on my Roku. Google needs to catch up.

that is a FAT32 limitation.

Try other paid apps that claim to support exFAT and NTFS:

exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon - Apps on Google Play

JS USB OTG - Apps on Google Play

But I have no idea if they work on Chromecast with GTV.

This is not a correct answer. Chromecast formats the usb drive in fat32 so you can not physically transfer a file that is larger than 4gb. It does not matter the software.

this is the right answer. The chromecast only has FAt32 support so you can only play files smaller 4GB. If you want larger files, your external disk must be exFAT or NTFS (if you copy them from Windows) and those 2 apps provide claim to provide access to such drives to fix the issue.

Tried the trial version of exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon and that didn't work. JS USB OTG wants $3.99 upfront and I am not going to risk it.

You are not getting what I am saying. Why isn't NTFS and other file systems built into Chromecast? Do you know when fat32 was developed? 1977.

Does anyone know how I can contact Google directly on this issue?

NTFS is not free to use from what I know. Send feedback to google with the steps from the link:

You can use Streaming Tools like Plex or DLNA/UPnP Server and play them via VLC, Nova Media Player, Kodi.

ok, it looks like Android 13 has builtin exFAT support (I can see exFAT formatted drives on my Pixel 6a with Android 13) and Android 14 may bring NTFS support.

So for exFAT we need to wait until Google releases Android TV 13 for our Chromecast wGT 4K sticks
